Surrounding Wall and Chapels of Stations of the Cross, Příbo [ Walls or fortification wall ]

Wall Surrounding the Parish Church
Politických Vězňů Street, Příbor

The surrounding wall delimits the boundaries of the Parish Church premises. Some scientists have concluded that a fort of Counts of Hückeswagen was situated in this place as late as the second half of the 13th century. The Parish Church, which was built-up later, probably fulfilled a strategic and protective function in case of a danger.

The surrounding wall, which is built of a quarry-stone, was modified many times within its existence. The present appearance of the wall probably dates from the second half of the 18th century., Chapels of Stations of the Cross of the second half of the 19th century.

The chapels are of a semi-circular base. In the chapel niches, which are shallow and framed with a couple of Ionic pilasters, there are ceramic reliefs of "Stations of the Cross" dating from 1887.

The area main entrance is opposite the west portal of the church. It consists of a bipartite forged grille, which is complemented with two little single-part gates situated at sides. The grille, dating from 1809, is hung among four prismatic pillars dating from the turn of the 19th century. Later, the pillars were used to place statues of St John Sarcander, St Cyril and Method and St John of Nepomuk.

Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross include 14 chapels situated along the inner side of the wall at the Parish Church. In 1887, canvas paintings in the chapels were replaced by ceramic reliefs modelled by Vojtěch Mottl, a teacher at the Příbor's Germany Grammar Shool. The reliefs were fired in the Neusser's factory in the village of Klokočov.
