Old Road from Nový Jičín to Valašské Meziříčí [ History ]Old Road from Nový Jičín to Valašské Meziříčí.
Until the 19the century when a new road between Nový Jičín and Valašské Meziříčí, leading through Hodslavice, was built, the old road had led throug Skalky, Kojetín, Straník, Hostašovice, Jasenice and Příluky. The road was very busy; it was used by carmen, who carted different goods, clothes made by cloth makers in Nový Jičín in particular, southward to Hungary and from Valašské Meziříčí northward to Poland. That busy traffic attracted robbers, who robbed wagons at a saddle between Strážnice and Petřkovická Hill. The most notorious of them was Jura Gajdůšek, who was caught and executed in Nový Jičín in 1719. According to a legend, he stayed in a near inn called Čertův Mlýn (The Devil´s Millhouse), which has been standing there in different appearances for some centuries and is still in operation.
